Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) seeks a Software Testing Principal (Edifecs) for a remote, 100% U.S.-based role in the Veterans Affairs Department. The position requires a proven track record in complex software projects, both manual and automated testing, and strong knowledge of EDIFECS X12 transactions.

This is a W-2 full-time role with top security clearance (Public Trust) expectations. Ideal candidates have 10+ years of experience, a Bachelor’s degree in CS/IT/Engineering, and hands-on EDIFECS

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software testing experience
• Experience in manual and automated testing
• Proficiency in Agile/Scrum and SDLC
• Ability to write and execute test cases, scripts, and plans
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions
• Experience with version control systems (Git, SVN)
• Knowledge of performance testing tools (JMeter, Gatling)
• Proficiency in Java, Python, C#, or JavaScript
• Experience with defect tracking tools (JIRA, Bugzilla)
• Experience with COTS products
• Knowledge of security testing practices

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute test plans, test cases, and procedures to ensure information systems meet standards and user requirements
• Develop test schedules and approaches
• Write test cases/scripts and identify data for scenarios
• Conduct walkthroughs with Test Managers and Developers
• Perform and lead tests of software/IT systems to ensure proper operation and defect-free status
• Document and communicate test results and track issues
• Provide direction to team members and manage complex problems
• Create daily test metrics and reporting
• Support broader IT system engineering activities as needed
