Tempus AI is seeking a Principal Scientist for Data Insights & Hypothesis Design to ensure scientific coherence of the multimodal data platform and bridge molecular science with scalable data engineering.

The role requires strong computational, statistical, and translational research skills, with leadership in expanding multimodal applications to neurology and immunology, while maintaining data integrity and scientific validation.

Qualifications

• PhD in a quantitative, NGS-related discipline (e.g., Computational Biology, Genetics, Bioinformatics, Systems Biology) with 6 years of industry experience.
• Domain expertise in oncology, neurology, or immunology, plus experience analyzing clinico-genomic data across disease areas.
• Experience collaborating with data engineering and platform teams to build large-scale relational databases and design advanced data models.

Responsibilities

• Data Evaluation & Prototyping: Conduct rigorous data evaluations, write technical code (SQL, R, Python), and prototype new data offerings within the Tempus Data Model (TDM). Deliver implementation-ready table and column specifications to transition concepts into scalable, production-grade offerings.
• Client Alignment & Scientific Advisory: Translate client research objectives into actionable clinico-genomic data strategies and guide how datasets are applied to research needs.
• Cross-Functional Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as a core scientific authority across the organization; evaluate datasets, perform UAT, and build data insight reports and capability demonstrations.
• Cross-Domain Data Oversight: Support growth across neurology and Immunology, profiling terabyte-scale datasets and leveraging biology insights to extract meaningful findings.
