Job summary

Environmental Resources Management, Inc. (ERM) seeks a Principal Technical Consultant, Paleontologist to guide major projects nationwide, providing senior leadership, mentorship, and regulatory oversight.

You will ensure high-quality deliverables, coordinate with agencies, clients, and partners, and drive technical excellence across the practice. You will have a graduate degree in a related field, 6–8 years of experience, and readiness to travel regionally.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Paleontology, Geology, Biology, Anthropology, or related field.
  • 6–8 years of mitigation and environmental due diligence experience.
  • Ability to be listed as PI on permits within Great Basin/ Rocky Mountain regions.
  • Experience as Field Agent/Field Director on permits is a plus.
  • Principal Investigator with field oversight in Great Basin or Rocky Mountain regions.
  • Experience authoring/reviewing agency reports and mitigation plans.
  • Experience interacting with regulatory agencies and clients.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites across multiple states.
  • Familiarity with mapping tech (GPS, ArcGIS).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Permit Administrator and Principal Investigator on permits and ensure QA/QC of deliverables.
  • Oversee a team conducting desktop studies and field investigations including surveys and salvage.
  • Mentor junior staff and coordinate across the cultural resources practice.
  • Collaborate with regional leaders and directors to drive technical excellence.
  • Lead authorship or review of paleontological resource studies for large projects.
  • Manage projects from multi-state to site-specific investigations.
  • Strengthen client relationships and identify cross-sell opportunities.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated energy-sector solutions.
  • Represent ERM in meetings with clients, agencies, stakeholders, and partners.
  • Identify subcontractor needs and manage delivery and schedules.
