Job summary

ERM is seeking a Principal Technical Consultant, Paleontologist to lead and supervise paleontological resources services nationwide. This senior role combines technical oversight, regulatory expertise, and client-facing leadership for major energy and infrastructure projects.

You will mentor staff, oversee field surveys and permit compliance, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated environmental solutions across the Great Basin and Rocky Mountain regions.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Paleontology or a related field.
  • 6-8 years of mitigation and environmental due diligence experience.
  • Ability to be listed as Principal Investigator on permits within the Great Basin/ Rocky Mountain subregions.
  • Field experience and principal-level project oversight in the specified subregions.
  • Experience authoring agency-reviewed paleontological reports and mitigation plans.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites across the US.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Permit Administrator and PI on BLM Paleontological Resources Use Permits and state permits; QA deliverables.
  • Oversee a team conducting desktop studies and field surveys, salvage, and construction monitoring.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop mid-level and junior paleontologists and cultural resources specialists.
  • Collaborate with regional leads and directors to drive technical excellence and team success.
  • Lead primary author or reviewer roles for studies supporting large-scale projects.
  • Manage multi-state projects from infrastructure to site investigations.
  • Strengthen client relationships and identify growth opportunities.
