Job summary

Defense Unicorns is seeking a Platform Engineer to join our platform team, delivering a cloud-based platform with DevOps and SRE practices. You will build and run Kubernetes, manage IaC, and own CI/CD pipelines in a remote, US-focused environment.

The role emphasizes hands-on work with AWS, GitLab CI, Keycloak, and monitoring tools, while maintaining security posture and participating in on-call incidents. Mentoring is encouraged.

Qualifications

• Hands-on Kubernetes deployment, management and troubleshooting.
• IaC tooling experience with Terraform / Pulumi.
• CI/CD expertise, especially GitLab CI.
• Linux/Unix proficiency and CLI usage.
• Cloud platform experience, preferably AWS (EKS/IAM/S3).
• Containerization with Docker and registry management.
• YAML fluency for manifests and pipelines.
• Strong problem solving and independent work in a remote setting.
• US citizenship and eligibility for DoD 8570 IAT II.

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and optimize Kubernetes clusters across cloud environments.
• Develop and manage infrastructure as code to provision resources.
• Own and improve CI/CD pipelines and automation workflows.
• Support IAM via Keycloak and onboarding/configuration tasks.
• Implement monitoring, alerting, and logging for platform health.
• Manage certificate lifecycles and automation.
• Enhance platform security and ATO readiness.
• Collaborate with application teams to troubleshoot deployments.
• Document runbooks, ADRs, and engineering standards.
• Contribute to strategic planning and participate in on-call rotations.
• Mentor junior engineers through pairing and reviews.
