Job summary

Actalent, a global engineering services leader, seeks an Integrated Circuit Design Engineer specializing in Photonic Integrated Circuits (PIC) to advance quantum computing platforms. You will design, simulate, and validate PICs, collaborating with physicists and engineers across disciplines to deliver manufacturable, high-performance photonic solutions.

The role emphasizes cross-functional teamwork, hands-on layout, testing, and exposure to fabrication processes, with flexible hybrid work

Qualifications

• 6+ years PIC design experience (advanced degree inclusive)
• Experience with layout and mask design tools
• Strong background in photonic design and optical systems
• Programming for simulation and data analysis

Responsibilities

• Design and develop PICs to meet optical and system specifications
• Create layouts for PICs and coordinate tape-out with fabrication teams
• Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to define architectures and performance targets
• Lead PIC development efforts with internal teams and external partners
• Apply design-for-manufacturing principles to improve yield and robustness
• Mentor junior engineers in photonic design and testing
• Support validation through testing and data analysis of optical experiments
