Job summary

UCSF is seeking a Patient Record Abstractor (Medical Coder) for its Faculty Practice Revenue Management Operations. This fully remote role supports coding for physician-based services across UCSF locations and affiliated clinics.

The position emphasizes accuracy, adherence to confidentiality, and collaboration with clinicians and staff to maintain data quality and compliant coding practices.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of professional fee/revenue cycle coding experience
• Experience in PICU and/or Neonatology coding
• Experience with pediatric E/M and procedure coding
• Knowledge CPT/ICD-10 coding conventions and clinical documentation requirements
• Knowledge of payer coding and billing standards
• Healthcare experience
• Ability to collaborate with clinical and business partners and complete UCSF systems training

Responsibilities

• Work in moderate work queues daily as defined by UCSF leadership
• Maintain or exceed a 95% accuracy rate
• Code intermediate procedures/accounts requiring advanced knowledge in charge capture and revenue cycle
• Resolve claims edits to ensure correct coding of services
• Audit data input to support revenue cycle management
• Review coding queues and respond to payor inquiries as assigned
• Run reports related to assigned charges and missing charge reports
• Analyze charge integrity and reconciliation under supervision
