Job summary

UCSF is seeking a Patient Record Abstractor serving as a Medical Coder for physician practices. This fully remote, 3-month, full-time role involves reviewing records to assign CPT/ICD-10-CM codes, ensuring accuracy and compliance.

You will liaise with clinicians and staff, participate in audits, and support revenue cycle improvements across UCSF facilities. Ideal candidates have 2–5 years of revenue cycle coding experience, pediatric coding background, and current coding certifications.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of professional fee/revenue cycle coding experience.
• Current coding experience in PICU and/or Neonatology.
• Experience with pediatric E/M and procedure coding.
• Intermediate knowledge of CPT, ICD-10 coding conventions, and clinical documentation requirements.
• Knowledge of payer coding and billing standards; able to collaborate with partners.
• Willingness to complete UCSF systems training.

Responsibilities

• Maintain or exceed a 95% accuracy rate in coding tasks.
• Handle moderate and simple work queues daily as defined by leadership.
• Review APeX PB Charge Edits and RFI work queues for accuracy.
• Audit data input to support revenue cycle management.
• Collaborate with clinicians and staff on documentation changes.
• Resolve claim edits and ensure timely billing.
• Run reports for missing charges and errors; support throughput.
