Job summary

RAND Corporation is seeking an Open Source Research Resident to investigate and monitor threats at the intersection of AI, biosecurity, and national security. You will build a picture of actors, capabilities, and trends from open sources and turn signals into actionable intelligence.

Day-to-day work includes running investigations across diverse sources, tracking developments in AI and life sciences, mapping organizations and talent networks, and delivering clear assessments for internal teams

Qualifications

• Excellent analytic skills and ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and maintain objectivity.
• Strong background in open-source investigations, national security, technology, and foreign-actor tracking.

Responsibilities

• Run investigations across open and commercial sources; track technical and scientific developments.
• Map organizations and talent networks relevant to AI and biosecurity.
• Produce clear, decision-ready assessments for internal teams and external partners.
