Job summary

NWEA is seeking an Ontology Engineer to shape our knowledge architecture and semantic data assets. You will develop and manage ontologies that underpin our information systems, enabling better data organization and knowledge discovery across K-12 education domains.

You will collaborate with data engineering, product, and content teams to align knowledge representations with enterprise data and product needs, document ontologies, and apply SHACL, RDF/OWL, and related standards in production

Qualifications

• Advanced degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
• Strong knowledge of RDF/OWL/SHACL and vocabularies like SKOS.
• Experience with graph data, SPARQL queries and data integration.

Responsibilities

• Develops and maintains semantically rich ontologies for K-12 education domains.
• Integrates ontology management with source data repositories and triple stores.
• Ensures ontological accuracy through quality checks and updates.
• Collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver ontological solutions.
• Creates documentation for ontologies and knowledge graphs for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Coordinates with Data Engineering, Operations, and Content Development to align knowledge representations.
