Job summary

Baystate Interpreters, Inc. seeks RID certified and Rhode Island licensed American Sign Language interpreters to join as 1099 independent contractors across the Northeast region.

The role covers onsite and virtual interpreting in education, medical, legal, and community settings, with per diem pay and opportunities to build expertise in medical, legal, and educational interpretation. Ideal candidates are flexible, reliable, and dedicated to accuracy, confidentiality, and cultural competence.

Qualifications

• Must be fluent in American Sign Language (ASL).
• RID Certification and RI Interpreter of the Deaf License required.
• Authorized to work in the U.S. as a 1099 contractor.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate onsite and virtual interpretation between ASL and English.
• Follow Baystate Interpreters, Inc. policies and interpreter protocols.
• Uphold ethics standards and confidentiality across assignments.
• Establish professional interactions with patients, clients, and staff.
• Improve specialized vocabulary in medical, legal, and community contexts.
• Demonstrate punctuality, preparedness, and adaptability for various settings.
