Baystate Interpreters, Inc. is seeking dedicated RID certified American Sign Language interpreters to join our team as 1099 independent contractors across the Northeast region.

The role involves on-site and virtual interpretation in education, medical, legal, and community settings, with flexible per diem rates for assignments. Ideal candidates are reliable, culturally aware, and able to handle HIPAA and confidentiality requirements, maintaining professionalism and accuracy while delivering

Qualifications

• Must be fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and hold current RID Certification.
• Must hold current State of Rhode Island Interpreter of the Deaf License.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. under a 1099 contract without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to Baystate Interpreters, Inc. policies on information security and confidentiality (HIPAA, FERPA, GLBA, etc.).
• Provide accurate onsite and virtual interpretation between ASL and English.
• Follow interpreter protocols and ethics standards from IMIA, NCIHC, ATA, NAJIT, ISO.
• Maintain professional interactions with patients, healthcare providers, and staff.
• Continuously improve specialized vocabulary (medical, legal, social services).
• Demonstrate punctuality, preparedness, and adaptability to client needs.

Baystate Interpreters, Inc. is seeking dedicated and professional RID CERTIFIED and State of Rhode Island certified American Sign Language interpreters to join our team as 1099 independent contractors throughout the North East region. In this vital role, you will facilitate communication through onsite and virtual interpreting in various settings, enabling effective interactions in education, medical, legal, and community environments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Adhere to all Baystate Interpreters, Inc. policies related to information security and confidentiality including but not limited to HIPAA, FERPA, GLBA, and other relevant regulatory requirements.
• Provide accurate onsite and virtual interpretation between ASL and English.
• Follow interpreter protocols and procedures as required by Baystate Interpreters, Inc. and respective clients.
• Follow all interpreter ethics standards, including those set by the IMIA (International Medical Interpreters Association), the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC), the American Translators Association (ATA), the National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators (NAJIT), and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Uphold principles of confidentiality, accuracy, impartiality, professionalism, and cultural competence in every assignment.
• Establish and maintain positive, professional interactions with patients, customers, healthcare providers, and clinical staff.
• Continuously improve specialized vocabulary and subject matter knowledge (e.g., medical, legal, social services) to meet client needs.
• Demonstrate professionalism, neutrality, and confidentiality throughout the interpretation process.
• Provide high-quality interpretation, ensuring no omissions or additions, while adhering to established industry standards.
• Exhibit strong interpersonal skills and customer service while assisting clients during sensitive interactions.
• Effectively manage assignments, demonstrating punctuality, preparedness, and adaptability to meet various client needs and settings.

Qualifications:

• Must be fluent in American Sign Language and hold current RID Certification.
• Must hold current State of Rhode Island Interpreter of the Deaf License
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S under a 1099 contract without sponsorship.
• Must reside in the North East region of the USA (EST Time Zone ONLY).
• Strong communication skills and a composed demeanor in challenging situations.

• Familiarity with HIPAA and confidentiality regulations.
