Job summary

ICF is seeking an On-Call Project Archaeologist to support the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. This role involves leading and contributing to archaeology studies, NEPA and Section 106 compliance, and reporting results to agencies and SHPO.

Applicants with a Master’s in Anthropology/Archaeology, 3+ years of experience, and meeting the Secretary of the Interior’s standards are encouraged to apply; on-call scheduling may vary, with remote opportunities across GA, SC, NC, TN, or nearby areas.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Anthropology/Archaeology or related field.
• 3+ years of professional, related experience.
• Meets Secretary of the Interior’s Qualification Standards for Archaeology

Responsibilities

• Conduct archaeological surveys, testing, and data recovery for projects primarily in the southeastern US and Mid-Atlantic.
• Field supervision of on-call staff conducting excavation of close interval shovel tests and formal excavation units.
• Provide analysis/writing for environmental regulatory reviews under NEPA, NHPA, and state requirements.
• Contribute to technical expertise in archaeology, including approach development, analysis, and documentation.
• Write and produce technical reports or documents.
• Evaluate resources for the National Register of Historic Places.
• Develop resource management recommendations and assess project effects on resources.
• Collaborate with architectural and landscape historians toward an integrated multi-disciplinary approach.
• Collaborate in an integrated team with engineers, scientists, planners, regulators, and other stakeholders.
