Job summary

UnitedHealth Group seeks a National Medical Director of Surgical Clinical Programs to design, develop and oversee clinical specialty programs for general surgery, minimally invasive, and endoscopy. You will lead an entrepreneurial team using clinical literature and provider feedback to lower costs and improve outcomes.

You will articulate strategy to executives and external partners, balancing rapid change with rigorous clinical governance in a remote-capable role across the U.S.

Qualifications

• MD/DO with active medical license in one or more states.
• Board certification in General Surgery or related surgical specialty.
• 10+ years of clinical practice experience.
• 7+ years of progressive healthcare leadership experience.
• 5+ years of senior management in health plan or managed care.
• Experience with utilization management, clinical decision support & post-service review.
• Ability to read evidence-based literature and translate to clinical policy.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and oversight of clinical programs for surgical specialties.
• Oversee site of care strategies and modernize utilization management.
• Direct healthcare analytics and guide technology partners on ML capabilities.
• Communicate clinical strategy to executives and external stakeholders.
