Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Software Engineer II to join our ML Training & Serving engineering team, building and operating the infrastructure that enables models to be trained and served at scale.

This role sits at the intersection of distributed systems, ML infrastructure, and platform engineering, with emphasis on ownership, technical judgment, and execution. Strong collaboration and clear communication are expected.

Qualifications

• 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems; proficient in Python or Kotlin.
• Familiar with distributed systems and technologies like AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
• Proven ability to turn simple problems into multi-component solutions with well-tested code.
• Strong ownership, code reviews, and ability to navigate large codebases.

Responsibilities

• Break down large projects into tasks, deliver in phases and collaborate to ensure timely delivery.
• Collaborate across engineering, articulate technical constraints and trade-offs for product decisions.
• Support operations and availability by creating and monitoring metrics, and on-call efforts.
• Engage in growth and development activities such as participation in the interview process.
