Job summary

Near Space Labs is seeking a full-time Mission Planner & Controller to coordinate stratospheric balloon imaging missions across the U.S. You will plan trajectories, monitor flights, and make go/no-go decisions with flight teams and FAA interfaces.

This remote, nationwide role requires aviation expertise, weather analysis, and regulatory familiarity. Competitive salary, 401K, benefits, and growth in a fast-moving startup.

Qualifications

• 2+ years experience in aviation role such as operations control center, pilot, dispatcher, FAA controller, meteorology or related fields.
• 1+ years experience interpreting weather forecasts using multiple tools.
• Knowledge of US airspace regulation and maps; terrain and street maps.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Mission Controllers to execute stratospheric image capture missions.
• Plan, create, and execute flight trajectories using planning software.
• Enter accurate flight performance data daily into tracking system.
• Conduct shift handoffs to maintain 7-day-a-week operation.
• Evaluate weather and make go/no-go decisions for missions.
• Act as in-flight operator, monitoring concurrent Swifty flights in real time.
• Coordinate with FAA and air traffic control during missions.
