Job summary

OpenTrain AI is seeking seasoned metallurgists and welding inspectors for remote, part-time AI training work. You’ll evaluate microstructures, heat-treatment evidence, weld macros, and coatings to generate realistic inspection cases used to train next-generation AI models.

These are contractor roles offering $80–$130 per hour, 20+ hours weekly, fully remote in the United States. You bring eight+ years of hands-on inspection experience and the ability to explain your decisions clearly.

Qualifications

• Eight+ years of hands-on experience in metallography, weld inspection, or coating assessment.
• Experience applying ASTM/AMS/AWS/NADCAP/NACE/AMPP/SSPC standards in real-world inspections.
• Ability to document decision rationale clearly for AI training datasets.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate metallographic microstructures and heat-treatment evidence against applicable standards.
• Assess weld quality through macro-etch evaluation using acceptance criteria.
• Review coating inspection evidence against NACE/AMPP and SSPC protocols.
• Identify defects in laser powder bed fusion additively manufactured parts and justify accept/reject decisions.
