Job summary

Frontier AI Lab is seeking a Senior Metallurgist / Welding Inspector for a remote, US-based contractor role. You will evaluate metallurgical microstructures, analyze heat treatment per AMS 2750, and assess weld quality using established criteria, while inspecting coatings per SSPC/NACE standards.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on experience with micrographs, welds, coatings, or LPBF builds.
• Strong knowledge of US and international standards (AMS/ASTM/NADCAP/NACE/SSPC).
• AWS-CWI credentials or equivalent metallurgical certification.
• Experience in metallographic analysis, heat treatment evaluation, and coating assessment.
• Experience with LPBF defect mechanisms and AM processes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for clear decision documentation.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate metallographic microstructures to judge material acceptability.
• Perform heat treatment analysis per AMS 2750 and related standards.
• Assess weld quality using macro etch evaluation and CWI criteria.
• Conduct coating inspections per NACE/AMPP and SSPC protocols.
• Review LPBF defects with build data and cross-sections.
• Provide clear feedback to support AI model training; document decisions.
• Apply NADCAP, AWS, ASTM, AMS standards to metal samples and builds.
