Job summary

Guidehouse is seeking a Computational Biology Specialist in metagenomics to support NIH/NIAID initiatives. You will design and implement metagenomics analysis pipelines, collaborate with physicians and scientists, and deliver training materials for broader adoption of computational methods.

The role requires strong experience with 16S and shotgun metagenomics, high-performance computing, and open-source tools. Remote or on-site work at NIH in Rockville, MD is available.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in computational biology or related field with publications in metagenomics
• Strong knowledge of high-throughput metagenomic technologies and tools
• Experience with UNIX/Linux, scripting (Python/R) and HPC environments
• Familiarity with metagenomic databases and annotation workflows (KEGG, Pfam, etc.)

Responsibilities

• Design and implement computational methods for metagenomics data processing and analysis
• Collaborate with clinicians and researchers; contribute to publications
• Develop training materials to disseminate methods to NIH researchers
• Provide on-demand support and troubleshooting for metagenomics pipelines
• Stay current with literature and integrate new tools into workflows
• Partner with software developers to integrate metagenomics tools into enterprise platforms
