Job summary

Computercraft is seeking a Virus Bioinformatics Lead to support the NCBI at NIH in Bethesda, Maryland. You will guide a multidisciplinary team of biologists and developers to curate public viral sequences, develop bioinformatics tools, and drive data-delivery workflows.

You will engage with the research and public health community, set strategic goals based on user needs, and promote scientific discovery and preparedness for public health crises.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in bioinformatics, molecular biology, computational biology, or closely related field.
• Demonstrated record in viral genomics and bioinformatics.
• Familiarity with virus taxonomy, comparative genomics and evolution.
• Practical knowledge of bioinformatics tools and genomic sequencing data applications.
• Familiarity with NCBI resources and tools.
• Experience leading teams and setting goals with metrics to measure success.
• Ability to foster collaborative work environments.

Responsibilities

• Develop product vision, goals, and strategic roadmap aligned with NLM priorities.
• Prioritize activities and guide the team in an Agile environment.
• Lead data analysis and user research to inform requirements and decisions.
• Collaborate with scientists, bioinformaticians, and software developers across NIH and external partners.
• Develop partnerships to improve data usability and impact.
• Conduct outreach to researchers and public-health communities.
