Job summary

Geisinger is seeking a Pharmacy Prior Authorization Specialist to obtain prior authorization for medications and conduct benefit investigations to determine coverage. You will serve as a liaison with insurers, departments, and patients, and act as a subject matter expert for patient assistance programs for uninsured or under-insured populations.

You will stay updated on pharmacy reimbursement methodologies to support care teams.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 2 years related work experience required.
• Knowledge of pharmacy reimbursement methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Obtain prior authorization for medications and document referrals using payer criteria.
• Research and follow up on authorization requirements within established timeframes.
• Communicate authorization status to care team with details for a timely decision.
• Educate providers and patients on specialty services and programs.
• Identify patient assistance programs and eligibility requirements.
• Track award end dates and re-apply to avoid lapses in therapy.
