Job summary

AMN Healthcare Language Services is seeking professional, credentialed medical interpreters to join our team as independent contractors. The Over-the-Phone Interpreter (OPI) facilitates communication between LEP patients and healthcare providers in a remote, flexible role.

Candidates should have medical interpreting proficiency, strong ethics adherence, and the ability to work from home across a variety of healthcare settings.

Qualifications

• Fluent verbal communication in source and target language.
• Medical language proficiency assessment completed.
• Extensive knowledge of interpreter ethics and standards (IMIA, NBCMI, NCIHC).
• HIPAA compliant work environment and HIPAA training in last year.
• Preferred certifications in interpreting practices (e.g., CCHI or NBCMI).

Responsibilities

• Provide effective over-the-phone interpreting service for consumers.
• Maintain professional demeanor and conduct during calls.
• Adapt quickly to new and changing technologies.
• Adhere to interpreter ethics and procedural requirements.
• Respect LEP clients’ culture and medical preferences during procedures.
• Demonstrate strong customer service and interpreting aptitude.
