Job summary

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma/GED; 1 year experience in human or health services; ability to adhere to interpreter standards of practice and code of ethics; ability to interpret and translate on a daily basis in potentially stressful situations; excellent listening skills; knowledge of medical terminology and/or specialized vocabulary.

Responsibilities

• Provides accurate interpretation between LEP patients and hospital personnel; educates staff on culturally specific values, beliefs, and practices relevant to the encounter; acts as a conduit of information for clinical services and medical terminology support; informs LEP patients about the interpreter's role and limitations; serves as a cultural mediator to enhance communication between patients/family and clinicians.
