Job summary

Lehigh Valley Health Network seeks a professional interpreter to provide accurate interpretation between LEP patients and hospital staff. You will educate patients and staff on cultural values and practices, acting as a conduit for clinical services and medical terminology support.

You will serve as a cultural mediator to enhance communication, explain resources and protocols, and refer patients appropriately.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1 year experience in human or health services.
• Ability to adhere to interpreter standards of practice and code of ethics.
• Ability to interpret and translate on a daily basis in possibly stressful situations.
• Exhibit excellent listening skills.”
• Knowledge of medical terminology and/or specialized vocabulary.

Responsibilities

• Provides accurate interpretation between LEP patients and hospital personnel.
• Provides education to individuals and staff on culturally specific values, beliefs, and practices relevant to the encounter.
• Acts as a conduit of information for all clinical services including medical terminology and support services to LEP patients.
• Informs LEP patients about the interpreter's role and limitations.
• Serves as a cultural mediator to enhance communication between patients/family and medical care.
• Explains hospital resources, office protocols, and limitations to clinicians and patients; makes appropriate referrals.
• Develops relationships with LEP community focus groups focusing on community needs.
• Provides verbatim interpretation to preserve medical records and conveys meaning in the target language.
