Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a Medical Coding Professional to extract and assign accurate medical codes from clinical documentation. The role emphasizes querying insufficient records and ensuring compliance with coding guidelines. Telecommuting is available from anywhere in the United States.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED, 2+ years of coding/documentation experience, and familiarity with Microsoft Office and Epic EHR. Certification is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2+ years of experience with documentation for procedures, supplies and E/M levels (including ED, OB and OBS).
• Intermediate level of experience with Microsoft Office.
• Intermediate level of experience with EHR, specifically Epic.

Responsibilities

• Identify and extract relevant details and data within clinical documentation to assign appropriate medical codes.
• Use reference materials to determine code applicability, rules, and guidelines.
• Apply knowledge of medical coding areas (diagnosis, procedures, evaluation and management) to code correctly.
• Review clinical documentation to identify unclear areas and generate queries.
• Follow up with providers for timely responses to coding queries and finalize determinations.
