Job summary

Summit Spine and Joint Centers (SSJC) is seeking an experienced Medical Billing Specialist to manage patient accounts, process payments, and resolve billing disputes. The role supports multiple states with remote work flexibility and occasional in-person meetings at our Lawrenceville, GA office.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years in medical billing, CPT/ICD-10 proficiency, and familiarity with eClinicalWorks and insurance rules.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience with payment posting or revenue cycle in a medical setting.
• Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial insurance plans, Workers’ comp, and Personal Injury cases.
• Knowledge of claims submission of office visits, outpatient procedures, urinary drug screens, DME, MRI, and Chronic Care Management.
• Knowledge of medical billing rules, such as coordination of benefits, modifiers, and understanding of EOBs and ANSI code denials.
• Excellent knowledge of CPT coding, ICD.10 coding and medical pre-certification protocols required

Responsibilities

• Respond to incoming patient calls regarding account balances, statements, insurance coverage, and payment options
• Conduct outbound calls to patients regarding outstanding balances, payment arrangements, and account follow-up
• Address and resolve patient billing disputes and concerns, escalating complex issues as needed
• Refunds/Credit Balances/Bad Debt
• Review patient refund requests in accordance with organizational policy
• Prepare and maintain credit balance reports
• Review accounts for bad debt eligibility and process adjustments in accordance with policy
• Monitor and triage the fax queue, routing documents to appropriate accounts or staff
• Monitor the billing department email inbox, responding to or routing inquiries in a timely manner
• Prioritize and process incoming correspondence to ensure timely account updates and follow-up
• Post patient payments, adjustments, and refunds accurately to patient accounts
• Document all patient account interactions clearly in the billing system
• Maintain compliance with HIPAA and organizational confidentiality standards
