Job summary

AAPC is seeking a detail-oriented Medical Billing Specialist to manage claims submission, coding, and billing workflows. You will work with major EHR/EMR platforms to ensure accurate documentation, coding, and timely reimbursement.

The role requires 2+ years in medical billing/coding, CPC/CCS preferred, and excellent communication with patients and payers. Remote-work options may be available based on experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree preferred.
• CP C/CCS certification strongly preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years in medical billing, coding, and EHR/EMR usage.
• Solid knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
• Hands-on experience with EHR/EMR platforms (Epic/Meditech/PrognoCis).
• Familiarity with payer rules, HIPAA, and CMS guidelines.
• Experience creating cost estimates for procedures.
• Ability to prepare and submit appeals for denied claims.

Responsibilities

• Process and submit medical claims to insurers and third parties.
• Code procedures and diagnoses using ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS.
• Generate cost estimates based on coverage and contracts.
• Verify billing data in EHR/EMR before submission.
• Utilize Epic, Meditech, PrognoCis for workflows.
• Research and resolve billing discrepancies or denials.
• Prepare and submit insurance appeals per payer guidelines.
• Explain bills to patients and discuss coverage and responsibilities.
• Stay updated on HIPAA and CMS regulations and payer rules.
• Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure accurate coding.
• Track accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding claims.
