Job summary

Actalent is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to own end-to-end mechanical designs for cryogenic and quantum infrastructure systems. You will conduct heat transfer analyses, create detailed drawings, and collaborate with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced startup.

Qualifications

• Ownership of complex mechanical designs from concept through print-ready drawings.
• Experience with heat transfer, thermodynamics, and thermal modeling.
• Strong structural evaluation and design analysis.
• Proficient with FEA/CFD tools (ANYSYS, Abaqus, SolidWorks Simulation, COMSOL).
• 3D CAD modeling in SolidWorks, Creo, NX, Onshape.
• Experience in fast-paced deep-tech startup environment.
• Availability during core hours 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM MST.

Responsibilities

• Own mechanical designs from concept through print-ready drawing release, ensuring performance, manufacturability, and reliability.
• Advance designs to detailed, print-ready state with models, assemblies, and drawings with tolerances and notes.
• Perform heat transfer analysis, thermodynamic assessments, and thermal modeling to optimize system performance.
• Analyze heat transfer mechanisms for cryogenic and thermal challenges and incorporate insights into design decisions.
• Conduct structural evaluation and design analysis to verify strength and safety requirements.
• Use FEA and CFD tools (ANYS, Abaqus, SolidWorks Simulation, COMSOL, or similar) to simulate thermal and structural performance.
• Develop and refine 3D CAD models and assemblies using SolidWorks, Creo, NX, Onshape, or similar.
• Create and maintain detailed engineering drawings with tolerances and materials.
• Collaborate with cross-functional design teams in a deep-tech organization to solve engineering problems.
• Support dilution refrigerators and cryogenic systems used in quantum computing.
• Contribute to development of high-tech products in vacuum systems and advanced manufacturing equipment.
• Participate in a fast-paced startup with evolving requirements and multiple projects.
• Protect IP by documenting innovative designs and solutions.
• Provide CAD and drawing support to broader engineering projects.
