Job summary

Mercor is hiring experienced mechanical engineers to work with a leading AI lab's GenAI team, shaping how frontier models reason about real design and manufacturing tasks. You will review task quality, write instruction specs, and help define evaluation criteria in a hands-on, outcomes-focused role.

This remote, US-based engagement begins with 2–3 months and may extend based on performance. You will own real engineering work, collaborate with research and program management, and be supported by

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field.
• 5+ years of hands-on professional mechanical engineering experience in industry (design, thermal/fluid, etc.).
• Genuine ownership of real engineering work (designs, analyses, drawings, production).
• Fluency with common engineering tools (SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, Creo, AutoCAD, ANSYS, Abaqus, MATLAB).
• Senior/lead progression; PE license a plus but not required.
• AI fluency: experience using large language models in professional work.
• Availability: 40 hours/week for 2–3 months with potential extension.

Responsibilities

• Data QA and reviews of mechanical engineering tasks and model outputs.
• Write instruction specs and reference solutions for mechanical problems.
• Design benchmarks and domain-specific evaluation sets across mechanical design, thermal/fluids, structures, manufacturing, and controls.
• Calibrate and translate tacit engineering judgment into explicit, teachable criteria.
