Job summary

Turing is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to contribute to projects that evaluate and enhance AI systems through solid engineering practice. You will apply mechanical design, materials selection, and production methods to real-world problems, while collaborating with researchers.

No prior AI experience is required. This freelance contractor role offers fully remote work for about one month, with the possibility of extension. Strong English communication and robust reasoning are essential.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Design Engineer, or Manufacturing Engineer.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Mechatronics Engineering.
• Proficiency with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360) and engineering analysis methods (FEA, CFD) preferred.
• Strong English communication and technical reasoning skills.
• Comfortable using web-based tools for annotation and review.

Responsibilities

• Design and solve real-world mechanical and manufacturing engineering problems to test AI reasoning.
• Write clear, structured solutions covering mechanical design, materials selection, failure analysis, and production methods.
• Evaluate AI responses for accuracy, clarity, and alignment with engineering principles.
• Collaborate with researchers to refine AI understanding of simulation reasoning, calculations, and industry standards (ASME, ISO, ASTM).
