Job summary

AfterQuery is seeking a remote, project-based mechanical engineer with 2–4 years of hands-on CAD and mechanical design experience. You will deliver designs, drawings, and analyses over 2–3 weeks at 10–20 hours per week, with pay up to $100/hour. This role offers real-world challenges, portfolio-building work, and exposure to a YC-backed startup.

Collaborate asynchronously on components, assemblies, and systems, documenting decisions clearly while maintaining high engineering standards.

Qualifications

This role requires 2–4 years of professional mechanical engineering experience.
Proficiency in CAD platforms and the ability to produce detailed drawings.
Ability to work independently on technical tasks in a remote setting.

Responsibilities

Create, review, and iterate on mechanical designs and CAD models for components, assemblies, and systems
Develop detailed engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation to manufacturing standards
Perform engineering analysis including stress, tolerance, and DFM assessments
Support product development workflows from concept through prototype to production-ready design
Document design decisions, assumptions, and methodologies clearly and reproducibly
