Job summary

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture is seeking a Meat Inspector within the Dairy and Meat Inspection Division. This entry-level role focuses on ante-mortem and post-mortem inspections, evaluating sanitation and HACCP compliance across meat and poultry facilities, and educating firms on regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities include field inspections, traveling to assigned counties, and coordinating with plant operators to ensure wholesomeness and compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Meat Science, Animal Science, Biology, Food Science, Microbiology, or related agriculture/science field.
• One year of experience conducting meat and poultry inspections or other related processing experience.
• Must maintain an active/valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record.

Responsibilities

• Perform ante-mortem and post-mmortem inspections at meat and poultry facilities.
• Evaluate plant sanitation procedures and HACCP plan effectiveness.
• Educate firms on existing and new regulations and initiate regulatory actions when needed.
• Travel to counties outside permanent assignment to support inspection operations.
• Assist with prioritizing inspections based on territory needs and case load.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Meat Science, Animal Science, Biology, Food Science, Microbiology, or related agriculture/science field

Master's degree in Agriculture, Meat Science, Animal Science, Food Science, Microbiology, or related field
