Job summary

OpenTrain AI is seeking skilled materials scientists for remote, part-time, contract work. You will build realistic simulation tasks, judge AI results for reproducibility, and craft expert solutions from your materials expertise.

You'll use Python and scientific tools through CLI/script interfaces to produce inputs, run simulations like MD and electronic structure, and provide clear, tested reference solutions. Flexible hours and no commute.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in materials science and engineering, metallurgy, or related field.
• Experience with Python and at least one scientific/engineering tool via CLI, script, configuration file or programmatic API.
• Clear written and spoken English.
• No AI experience required; training on tools will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Create material structures, atomic configurations and simulation inputs for scientific solvers.
• Run and review simulations covering material behavior, including molecular dynamics and electronic structure.
• Write reproducible reference solutions and objective checks for computational materials tasks.
• Diagnose failed calculations, convergence problems and incorrect physical assumptions, then explain why the result is wrong.
