Job summary

The Center for Applied Linguistics in Washington, D.C. seeks a Manager, Speaking Test Development to lead the creation and refinement of Speaking test items for the WIDA assessments. You will ensure linguistic quality, accessibility, and alignment to language standards for K-12 multilingual learners.

This full-time role offers primarily remote work with in-person flexibility at the D.C. office and requires occasional travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field with at least five years of relevant experience.
• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field with at least two years of relevant experience.
• Expertise in development of large-scale spoken English language proficiency assessments for K-12 multilingual learners.

Responsibilities

• Oversee development of Speaking test items and ancillary materials from start to finish.
• Provide comprehensive feedback to test developers and sign off on content at key milestones.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to coordinate project plans and timelines.
• Oversee creation of training materials for external reviewers and QA test content.
• Lead meetings to review item content, fairness, and grade-appropriateness with stakeholders.
• Coordinate with audio studios to cast actors and produce recordings for Speaking items.
• Develop and revise item specifications and test content standards.
