Job description

SALARY: Depending on Experience + Benefits

Duties: Will train, mentor, and provide technical assistance to village water plant operators, utility managers, and local governments throughout the Aleutian and Pribilof region with operation and maintenance of their water and sewer facilities. Primary responsibilities include:

1. On-site training
2. Classroom training
3. Technical assistance with troubleshooting and emergencies
4. Reviews and inspections of sanitation facility designs and construction projects for operation and maintenance considerations
5. Routine communication with operators and site visits

Qualifications: High school graduate or equivalent preferred. Preferred 1-year experience in water, sewer, or electrical facility operation and maintenance field. Level-one certification in water distribution, wastewater collection, and wastewater treatment from the State of Alaska preferred, or must achieve certification within a year of hire. Must possess working knowledge of chemical treatment equipment, plumbing, and heating. Must have the ability to read, write, and understand English and follow directions. Must be in good physical health and capable of handling/moving light to medium weight materials, tools, equipment, and/or furniture. Willingness and means to travel via small aircraft on short notice. Valid Alaska Driver’s License. Willing to take training and attend workshops and meetings periodically to enhance job performance and knowledge. Have an interest and knowledge of Alaska Native culture and lifestyle. Native preference will be given dependent upon experience.
