Job summary

Axiom Consultants is seeking a MADIS / HADS Programmer II to support the Sterling Field Support Center from a fully remote setup. The role focuses on maintaining HADS servers, decoding GOES telemetry, and building tools to streamline data processing in meteorological environments.

Strong CS fundamentals with Python/C++/Java, SQL proficiency, and Linux experience are required. A background in meteorology or related sciences is highly desirable.

Qualifications

• BS in CS or 4 years of applicable experience.
• MTA or MCSA certification is required.
• Background in meteorology, hydrology, or environmental science is desirable.

Responsibilities

• System & Ingest Maintenance: Maintain primary and backup HADS servers, keep connectivity and security controls, and data ingest pipelines from OpenDCS, NWSTG, FTP, and API endpoints.
• Data Decoding & Telemetry Logic: Maintain decoding schemes to convert raw GOES satellite telemetry into usable observational data.
• Software Development: Design, modernize, and maintain internal tools that automate HADS processing pipelines and improve data quality control.
• Data Logic & Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve software vulnerabilities, system malfunctions, and data decoding issues for hydrological operations.
• Database & Infrastructure Support: Maintain internal relational databases and data stores, manage databases, user roles, connections, and data transfers.
• Technical Documentation: Create detailed documentation of program architecture, code, database schemas, and procedures.
• Technical Communication: Clearly explain complex system logic to internal teams and external data partners.
