Job summary

The Iowa Department of Transportation, Location Section within the Location and Environment Bureau (LEB), seeks a Location Engineer (TE Specialist) to advance planning studies through design and to manage projects in Ames, IA. A PE license is required and experience with roadway design and GIS is preferred.

The role involves scheduling technical/public meetings, coordinating with multiple agencies, and leading consultants on planning studies.

Qualifications

Professional Engineering licensure by the Iowa Engineering & Land Surveying Examining Board is required at the time of appointment.
Two years of full-time professional work experience in transportation or civil engineering are required at minimum.
Commitment to maintaining licensure and continuing education as required by the State of Iowa.

Responsibilities

Preliminary Engineering and design to determine potential impacts of proposed highway improvements.
Initiation and management of consultant contracts for planning studies.
Apply transportation engineering principles to locate concepts for safe and efficient highways.
Utilization of GIS, CADD, and other software.
Scheduling and conducting technical and public meetings.
Coordination and communication with various DOT bureaus and federal, state, and local agencies.
Presentations at internal, public, and local meetings.
