Job summary
Canonical is hiring an Associate Support Engineer to provide technical support for customers using Ubuntu and open-source products. You will own cases from qualification to resolution, triaging diverse environments including cloud, desktop and IoT, and collaborate with engineers as needed.
This is a globally remote role with opportunities for travel and ongoing learning. The ideal candidate has a strong Linux troubleshooting background, a technical degree, and excellent English communication.
Qualifications
- Experience with Linux troubleshooting (collecting logs and stack traces)
- Programming fundamentals in any language (bash, Perl, Ruby, Javascript, C/C++, Go)
- Networking basics including bonding, firewalling, bridging, MTU, etc.
- Experience with virtualization/cloud concepts and related tooling
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support for Canonical employees and customers over phone, email, and web
- Own and manage support cases from qualification to resolution
- Transfer cases to colleagues or involve senior engineers as needed
- Contribute new knowledge base articles and maintain existing ones
- Draft and distribute technical notices for internal and external communication
- Adapt to changing priorities and maintain regular team communication
- Learn and adapt to Ubuntu development processes to set accurate customer expectations
- Participate in regular weekend rotation
