Job summary

Nationwide is seeking an experienced Life Underwriter to assess complex life insurance applications across the United States. You will work with field partners and internal teams, applying risk-based decision-making and advanced underwriting knowledge to determine appropriate requirements and risk classes.

The role supports autonomy and ongoing learning in a fast-paced environment with a focus on accurate, timely underwriting decisions and excellent service delivery.

Qualifications

• Five years of life underwriting experience
• Ability to evaluate life financials and beneficiary situations
• Knowledge of mortality and morbidity underwriting processes
• Experience with reinsurance terms and policy disclosures
• Strong written and verbal communication with partners and colleagues

Responsibilities

• Receives and underwrites complex life applications within authority. Maintains confidentiality throughout underwriting process.
• Maintains knowledge of underwriting manuals, rules, and procedures influencing underwriting decisions.
• Orders and reviews additional evidence of insurability as needed (medical exams, reports, interviews).
• Applies risk-based decision-making to determine requirements and appropriate risk class.
• Collaborates with colleagues and field partners to achieve underwriting goals and provide superior service.
• Reconciles data and leads training for team members on underwriting processes.
