Job summary

Harbor is seeking a Legal Knowledge & Research Manager for its Library and Research department. This fully remote, full-time role leads a high-performing team and manages research quality, stakeholder communications, and library operations while leveraging innovative legal technology.

The position emphasizes client-facing services, budget oversight, and strategic initiatives across digital resources and AI-enabled research, with a Monday–Friday schedule and nationwide remote work.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent is required.
• Minimum 5 years of experience providing legal research, competitive intelligence, or knowledge services in a law firm, professional services, or corporate environment.
• Minimum 3 years of experience managing or leading a research team or function.
• Familiarity with legal research platforms such as Westlaw, LexisNexis, Bloomberg Law, and related analytics tools.
• Ability to translate complex research into practical, attorney-focused insights.
• Experience managing vendor relationships, research budgets, and data-driven decision-making.
• Familiarity with emerging legal technologies and trends, including generative or agentic AI applications in legal research.
• Strong project management, organizational, and prioritization skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with attorneys, clients, and senior stakeholders.
• Analytical mindset with strong problem solving and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Build strong relationships with attorneys and client stakeholders to anticipate research needs and deliver value.
• Lead research outreach initiatives tailored to specific Client practice groups or departments.
• Occasionally deliver direct research findings, competitive intelligence, or market insights to Clients and leadership.
• Supervise and guide department staff, including training and performance evaluations.
• Foster a collaborative, inclusive work environment and promote teamwork and development.
• Delegate tasks to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of projects.
• Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of research professionals with direction and feedback.
• Promote best practices in legal research methodology and information delivery.
• Oversee complex legal, regulatory, and business research activities in support of Client attorneys.
• Ensure deliverables are timely, accurate, and aligned with client priorities and risk tolerance.
• Guide governance of digital research resources and ensure compliance with copyright and licensing.
• Evaluate new technologies and platforms to enhance access and usability of digital resources.
• Champion evaluation and adoption of AI-powered legal research tools.
• Stay informed on trends in legal technology and AI, advising Clients accordingly.
• Provide strategic oversight of ILS, digital platforms, and department technology operations.
• Oversee vendor relationships and budget management for research services.
• Lead initiatives on workflow optimization, analytics projects, and service enhancements.
• Develop project plans, timelines, and success metrics, and communicate progress to stakeholders.
