Job summary

Humana, Inc. seeks a Lead Software Engineer for Enterprise Observability in a remote-friendly role with commutable distance to designated IT locations including Tampa, FL.

You will design, implement, and evolve observability platforms, mentor engineers, and partner with SRE, Security, Data Science to drive AI-enabled monitoring solutions. You will lead enterprise-scale initiatives around logging, telemetry, and event correlation, using OpenTelemetry concepts and Splunk Cloud Enterprise.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in software/infrastructure engineering with observability/logging focus.
• 3+ years in hands on observability design and engineering solution
• 2+ years hands on experience developing data logging solutions
• 2+ years hands on experience with AI development (not an end user)
• 2+ years automation experience
• 2+ years maturing/scaling Observability
• Strong foundation in operating systems, networking, algorithms, and distributed systems.
• Proven leadership and mentoring experience.
• Agile delivery experience and observability maturity.
• Expertise with Splunk Cloud Enterprise & ES (SPL, dashboards, correlation searches, data models)

Responsibilities

• Architect and optimize observability environments through software engineering best practices.
• Build automation scripts and tools to streamline observability instrumentation and deployment.
• Integrate observability into CI/CD pipelines using infrastructure-as-code (IaC).
• Conduct observability code reviews and implement automated validation checks.
• Build AI-native tools for autonomous issue detection and resolution.
• Lead the design of distributed systems focused on reliability, scalability, and performance.
• Manage data routing, transformation, and endpoint monitoring integrations.
• Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
• Collaborate across teams to align observability strategies with business goals.
• Communicate technical insights to leadership.
