Job summary

DSHS is seeking a highly skilled Epidemiologist III to lead the Data Analytics Team in HIV/HCV/STD surveillance and analytics. The role emphasizes advanced statistical and geospatial analyses, data management, and mentoring staff to ensure timely, accurate results.

The position requires a Master's in Public Health and experience with SAS, ArcGIS, and data reporting. Telework eligibility and a full-time schedule are available within the Texas public health system.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Public Health (MPH) or closely related field required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in data management and analysis with large public health datasets using advanced statistical software such as SAS, R, Stata, or Python.
  • Experience with ArcGIS or other geocoding software.
  • Experience with creating reports and data presentations.
  • Experience with managing direct reports and/or leading team projects.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts advanced statistical and geospatial analyses on complex survey datasets to evaluate HIV/HCV/STD behavioral risk factors, testing, treatment, transmission, medical care and clinical outcomes.
  • Serves as lead epidemiologist for Data Analytics Team, including training and mentoring staff, ensuring adequate training opportunities, communicating needs to the Group Manager, and identifying analysis and publication opportunities.
  • Conducts HIV/HCV/STD research investigations, surveillance and assessment based on standard scientific methods, programmatic needs or new/innovative approaches; provides data for web queries as needed.
  • Assists to provide HIV/HCV/STD data to policy makers, public health practitioners, internal and external partners and the public.
  • Participates in epidemiological and surveillance HIV/HCV/STD project activities including development of local survey questions and review of survey formative assessment.
