Job summary

CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield seeks a Lead Data Engineer to provide technical leadership for Shared Services data portfolios and partner with product managers, architects, and stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure data solutions.

The role drives modernization of the data ecosystem, establishes reusable data products, and mentors engineers while aligning with enterprise EE/EP and Shared Services initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required or 4 years of additional relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
• 8+ years leading data engineering and cross-functional teams to implement scalable ETL/ELT solutions.
• Hands-on experience with data modeling, relational databases, and data warehousing concepts.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, configuration, implementation, monitoring, and management of Data Integration Frameworks.
• Develop and maintain data warehouses/lakes and data access APIs; work with Hadoop or similar platforms.
• Model data warehouses in cloud or on-premise environments; apply dimensional/denormalized modeling, OLAP concepts.
• Oversee data engineering projects, support ELT/ETL activities, and build data collection frameworks for structured/unstructured data.
• Enforce data auditing, quality controls, performance, and cost-efficient data delivery across large datasets.
• Translate business needs into engineering roadmaps; mentor engineers and lead architectural reviews.
