Job summary

Commence seeks an experienced Information System Security Officer (ISSO) to lead security assessments and authorization for federal programs. You will own the RMF lifecycle, develop and maintain security documentation, and coordinate with CIO, engineers, and compliance teams.

This remote position includes 15-25% travel and requires US citizenship. You will work on CMS, VA, DoD, IRS and other agencies, ensuring HIPAA, FISMA, and CUI compliance across systems.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of information assurance or cybersecurity experience with federal focus.
• 3+ years as ISSO/A&A lead for federal information systems; SSPs and POA&M management.
• Experience with NIST RMF/SP 800-37 and agency security controls.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain Public Trust.
• Knowledge of federal compliance frameworks (CMS ARS/IS2P2, 6500 series, DFARS, NIST SP 800-171/CMMC).

Responsibilities

• Serve as ISSO for assigned federal systems and liaison with agency ISSOs.
• Lead Security Assessment and Authorization lifecycle from categorization to reauthorization.
• Prepare and maintain SSP, risk assessments, privacy impact assessments, and plans.
• Maintain POA&M, monitor vulnerabilities, and coordinate remediation with teams.
• Lead assessments for CMS, VA, DoD, IRS; support evidence collection and responses.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, FISMA, CUI and related requirements across systems.
• Prepare for internal audits and support SOC 2, NIST CSF/800-53/171, and related controls.
• Handle incident reporting and serve as first responder for security events.
