Job summary

TEKsystems is seeking an experienced Coding Denials & Appeals Auditor for a fully remote 6-month contract-to-hire opportunity. The role focuses on inpatient denials, DRG validation, and writing compelling appeal letters to recover reimbursements.

The ideal candidate will review medical records, analyze coding accuracy, and collaborate with revenue cycle and clinical teams. Epic experience and professional coding certification are required.

Qualifications

• Active coding certification (CCS, CPC, RHIT, RHIA, or equivalent).
• Acute-care/inpatient coding experience.
• Experience reviewing coding denials and writing payer appeals.
• Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, DRG and coding standards.
• Strong written communication skills.
• High School Diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

• Review inpatient and outpatient coding denials from commercial payers.
• Analyze records, coding, and documentation to identify appeal opportunities.
• Write clear, clinically supported appeal letters for denials.
• Validate DRG, ICD-10, CPT, APC, and MS-DRG coding assignments.
• Determine when to appeal vs. uphold denials.
• Document denial and appeal activity in workflows.
• Prioritize work based on recovery potential and financial impact.
• Collaborate with coding, CDI, revenue cycle, and clinical teams.
• Utilize Epic and AI-assisted tools to support appeals.
