Job summary

Memorial Hermann Health System in the United States seeks an experienced clinical coder responsible for ensuring accuracy and completeness of coded data for reimbursement and data integrity. This role reports to the Coding Compliance Manager and supports inpatient and outpatient coding.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, RHIT/RHIA/CCA/CCS/CIC certification, and at least four years of hospital coding or auditing experience; knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, 3M tools, and reimbursement

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED, required.
• Inpatient: RHIT/RHIA/CCA/CCS/CIC certs from AHIMA or AAPC required.
• Outpatient: RHIT/RHIA or relevant coding certs from AHIMA or AAPC required.
• Four years of relevant hospital coding or auditing experience.
• Experience coding/auditing in Level 1 trauma/academic teaching facility preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding principles.
• Working knowledge of reimbursement systems, policies and documentation.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular coding audits and coordinate ongoing monitoring of coding accuracy.
• Develop and coordinate educational sessions for all coding staff.
• Serve as a resource for coding staff on organization-wide coding standards and guidelines.
• Design audit tools to monitor coding accuracy.
• Keep abreast of coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements.
• Conduct trend analyses to identify patterns in coding practices.
• Adhere to AHIMA standards and official coding guidelines.
• Ensure adherence to Memorial Hermann policies and budgetary constraints.
• Promote professional growth and act as mentor to staff.
• Demonstrate care by providing safe, compassionate and personalized service.
