Job summary

Infinity Images, a Portland-based design, print, and fabrication house, seeks a mid-level Industrial Designer to join the engineering team. You’ll turn creative concepts into buildable 3D retail displays and fixtures, coordinating with design, engineering, and production for practical fabrication solutions.

You'll translate renders into SolidWorks, generate shop drawings, and create CNC cut files while collaborating across teams to meet budgets and schedules.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in industrial design or design engineering, preferably within the retail display, exhibit, or custom fabrication industries.
• Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, including multibody parts, assemblies, sheet metal, and technical drawings.
• Experience creating 2D drawings in Adobe Illustrator and extracting measurements from SketchUp.
• Strong understanding of materials and fabrication methods, including wood, metal, plastics, vinyl, and large-format printing.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities while meeting tight deadlines.
• Strong problem-solving skills and sound technical judgment.
• Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and architectural drawings.
• Strong attention to detail, particularly when taking measurements and documenting site conditions.

Responsibilities

• Translate design renders, CAD models, and drawings provided by clients or our in-house design team into SolidWorks models.
• Develop detailed shop drawings from SolidWorks models, including hardware and material specifications.
• Create CNC cut files in Adobe Illustrator using files exported from SolidWorks.
• Collaborate with the engineering team to review drawings, exchange ideas, share models, and support larger projects.
• Work closely with account managers, project managers, and designers to develop practical solutions, identify potential challenges, and determine appropriate materials and fabrication methods.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise during manufacturing or installation.
• Participate in research and development, material selection, and fabrication planning.
• Occasionally attend site surveys and installations as needed.
