Job summary

Apex Systems is seeking an experienced Database Administrator to manage a large Microsoft SQL Server environment supporting Epic EMR systems. The role focuses on administration, tuning, maintenance, security, and upgrades across ~160 SQL Server instances.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of SQL Server experience in healthcare, with expertise in patching, backups, high availability, and regulatory compliance. Remote work is available for an Oklahoma-based team member.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
5+ years of Microsoft SQL Server administration experience within the healthcare industry.
Experience with SQL Server versions 2016–2022; maintenance, backups, high availability, security, and troubleshooting.
Epic or EMR/EHR support experience preferred.
Healthcare systems experience within hospitals or health systems preferred.
Microsoft SQL certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

Administer and support enterprise Microsoft SQL Server environments (≈160 instances).
Monitor DB health, performance, availability and security.
Perform SQL Server patching, upgrades, installations, and maintenance.
Support backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes.
Optimize database performance through tuning and configuration improvements.
Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues to minimize downtime.
Maintain database integrity, consistency, and reliability.
Partner with Epic application teams to support healthcare initiatives.
Assist with capacity planning and future database growth strategies.
Develop and maintain SQL code and database automation processes.
Ensure compliance with healthcare data security and regulatory requirements.
