Job summary

Optum Tech is seeking a Principal Data Platform Leader to steer the enterprise data warehouse strategy for healthcare data. You will design modern platforms, drive data standard adoption, and oversee diverse data ingestions across claims, EHR/EMR, and pharmacy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
• 10+ years in IT with focus on DW, analytics platforms and enterprise systems.
• 5+ years in leadership managing teams and large programs.
• Healthcare domain experience: payer, provider, or life sciences.
• Hands-on DW modernization or cloud migration experience.
• Experience managing multi-million-dollar programs and cross-functional teams.
• Understanding of claims, billing, reimbursement processes.
• Knowledge of EHR/EMR systems (Epic, Cerner).
• HL7, FHIR, CCD/C-CDA data standards proficiency.
• ETL/ELT tools (Informatica, Talend, ADF, dbt) and workflow orchestration (Airflow).
• APIs and real-time streaming (Kafka, event-driven).
• Cloud ecosystems (Azure/AWS/GCP) and Databricks/Spark knowledge.
• Data pipeline scalability, performance tuning, and BI tools (Power BI/Tableau).
• Strong business acumen and ROI-focused data strategies.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the enterprise data warehouse strategy for healthcare data.
• Lead design of modern data platforms: cloud DW, data lakes, and dimensional models.
• Drive adoption of healthcare data standards (FHIR, HL7) and data interoperability.
• Oversee ingestion of diverse datasets: claims, EHR/EMR, pharmacy, lab.
• Lead ETL/ELT pipelines and real-time streaming solutions.
• Partner with data science teams on predictive modeling and AI/ML use cases.
• Ensure HIPAA, CMS, and HITECH compliance and data governance.
• Establish data lineage, data quality rules, and master data management.
• Manage teams of data engineers, analysts, and platform engineers; mentor on healthcare data domain.
• Drive ROI-focused data initiatives and align data strategy with business goals.
