Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking an AI/ML Engineer to design, deploy, and scale GenAI models and LLM applications within our Optum Technology team. You will build Python APIs, run on Kubernetes, and leverage Pandas, NumPy, and Databricks to derive actionable insights from healthcare data.

You’ll work in a fast-paced environment with strong collaboration, contributing to responsible AI practices and continuous delivery improvements while telecommuting from anywhere in the U.S.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of software development, machine learning, data science, analytics, or AI/ML engineering
• 2+ years of Python using core data science, analytics, and machine learning libraries (Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, Databricks)
• 2+ years of advanced SQL experience with complex queries and data insights
• 2+ years applying machine learning in enterprise environments including supervised/unsupervised learning and feature engineering
• 2+ years developing NLP or Generative AI solutions (Transformers, GPT, RAG, embeddings)
• 1+ years building RESTful APIs for ML/AI model inference

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and validate ML models using GenAI and traditional ML on cloud platforms
• Write and deploy scalable Python APIs for model inference on Kubernetes
• Develop and optimize Python-based ML solutions using Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, Databricks
• Design AI-powered solutions addressing complex business challenges with responsible AI
• Evaluate trends to inform design and architecture
• Leverage enterprise AI tools to streamline workflows and delivery
• Use agented tooling (GitHub Copilot, Claude) for coding collaboration
• Maintain coding standards, docs, and monitoring across pipelines
